Any computer gurus lurking here? Desperately need some help. I use a Compaq laptop with WXP for 3 years. This bit might be a coincidence, however following a windows update via the web, on restarting my laptop a message appeared to tell me that my user profile couldn't be found and a new one was being created. So now I am a new user on my laptop and can't access any previous history, documents, pictures, e mail etc. I tried the system restore to a time before the update, didn't work.
How can I get access to my files on the hard drive? I have backed up over the years, so no major issues, just the major inconvenience of starting all over again and mainly not being able to reach my e mails awaiting answer in the last couple of weeks. It is my main machine for business. Also lost access to some valuable software downloaded form web.  |

| In user profiles is your new profile at administrator access level? If so can you go and find your material on c:/documents and settings/all users (or your previous profile, if it still exists their? |

| I'll give that a try tomorrow when I'm back in my office, basically don'y know what access my new user profile gives me. Would an 'expert' be able to solve this? I may have to take it to someone and pay. Ironic that I've spent so much time and money protecting my material that I can't even get to it. I'm sure one of those people from Spooks could access it no problem. |

No problem. I knew it could be done, all I had to do was find a link that explained it clearly.
