One can only wonder whether he felt compelled to make a deposit.

As someone who has just resigned from the finance world I can confirm that the industry is full of "bankers".

In the past few months, when asked what I did for a job, I took to telling people I was a male prostitute is was far less embarrassing than saying I was in finance.

Seriously though, it is an industry built on greed. The company I work for (for the next 3 weeks) made 30 people redundant last year, then the CEO announced that the company's growth had been 10% which was super considering the recessionary climate we are operating in, in October they put up their fees by 6% even though inflation locally is 2% and then last week, encouraged the staff to celebrate in the partnership's success by not giving pay-rises.

I asked my director what the party line was for the increase in fees, I was told, because we are worth it. Last Monday it came to ahead when they announced the promotions and my immediate line manager has been promoted to Director level even though she was only promoted to manager last year. That promotion went to her head, this even more so. So I took it upon myself to indicate my displeasure and after 3 intense hours of negotiation resigned my position.

Thankfully my photography business is growing and I can fall back on it, though there will obviously have to be some economies and downsizing, possibly of our property. But all in all I'm much happier and looking forward to the future as being self employed. From now on the only person I can fall out with is me.

Good for you Ian unfortunately though, I would expect your reasoning will leave your ex-leaders slightly bemused...

I wish you luck with your photography.

Tony, it's a condensed summary of the reasons for my departure. I haven't been happy for 6 months and I guess this was the last nail. To to be honest they have been very good to me, letting me go two months early to concentrate on the photography business and paying me up to the end of April.

I am sure that some will be bemused, I know I am not the only one disgruntled by the way things are progressing, unfortunately I'm probably the only one to speak out.

Thanks Nick, I think !

Not sure about guts, probably stupidity. It's daunting not having the security of a monthly wage. But we have contingencies that we can fall back on and I have a few contacts that maybe able to throw contract and project work my way if things get quiet.

We turned over slightly short of £20k in sales from KP last year without advertising. We have repeat bookings for this year and a number of weddings, so we must be doing something right. With a bit of a push I believe it will fill the void that my salary will leave.

Ian,
good luck old son.
Mrs Aib has started her own business in the last twelve months.
So far-so good as they say.
Last week for the first time, she exceeded what she would have earned in a week in her old job.
I know she's well pleased about that--and I'm mighty proud of her and her achievement.

In 1994, I stood in front of my manager at Thorn EMI, who informed me that without a degree in business management, I'd never succeed in business.
If my memory serves, I called him a tosser and resigned anyway.
Best thing I ever did.

So I'll always say 'GO FOR IT!!!'

Action this day my boy--action this day.

Regards
Andy.

Took today off to make plans, it has been a good day.

We did a mail shot to all the schools and pre-school organisations last week and have picked up two for their group photographs and I went to visit one to firm up on our remit. 40 children from this one and another 35 from the other.

Also picked up a job next weekend photographing a local netball tournament, it's a rotten job but someones got to do it.

Dropped some shots off to a local dance studio from before Christmas and picked up the same gig next December.

Then two real beauties this evening.

Mike Higgins the organiser of the local airshow called to ask if they could use one of my shots from last year in some promotions and would I like to be on the team for this year and our parish want an official photographer for the Europe in Bloom (Entente Florale) competition with the chance of a trip down to Serbia in September.
